The DETI committee met this morning, Tuesday 19th January. They were briefed by Simple Power, Wind NI, Ulster Farmers Union and Action Renewables. The following is a brief summary of what was discussed.
PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS RUMOURS AND SPECULATION WHICH MAY BE INACCURATE.
- There is speculation that there is potential for a “Northern Ireland only” ROC to cater for those who can’t enter the current NIRO.
- These “special ROCs” would only be traded to NI electricity companies rather than UK companies as per the current legislation.
- The legality for this could be included in an Energy Bill due to be passed tomorrow.
- Concerns were raised as to how these ROCs could be traded and how their value could be managed.
Again, please use your own judgement on the above, this is only speculation at the moment.
Other points worth mentioning:
- The committee raised the point that they need to be updated by the DETI officials as to what the current situation is as they appear to be “in the dark” at the moment
- It appears that the committee will be discussing the consultation responses from the 30th September consultation and have suggested that DETI officials are present at the meeting to give them an update.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 26th January at 10am
